Birthday Bee

Kate's birthday card 2008

I received this Sublime Stitching pattern from Diana for my birthday and immediately knew what to do with it. Since my BFF's birthday is just three days after mine, I knew I'd do a birthday card for her. I had some yellow cotton (formerly a Jim shirt) hanging around, so to work I went. I love the sort of cross-eyed bee and whimsical flowers. The lettering is freestyle, as I'm sure you can tell. It was an afterthought and I just didn't want to deal with a pattern, ja know?

All in all I'm pleased with this piece and look forward to using more elements from this pattern soon.

Oldie but Goodie

Photobucket

Did this embroidery for the "250 Square Feet of Art" for the Eisner Museum fundraiser two years ago. It's all metallic on black cotton. This is a Simpsons quote (well, a bastardized version of a Simpsons quote) I've always wanted to cross stitch, but I didn't have time for creating a pattern before the piece was due.

Metallic embroidery floss is a bitch to work with, I hate working with it. Overall I think this turned out pretty well, I was pretty pleased with the window detail. To bulk the image up I went over the rocket with three or four stitches, which created sort of a rope-like effect.

"Tom Goes to the Mayor" can be verbed

You know how there are all kinds of words that aren't verbs but are used as verbs? My sister once told me that she was busy "lotioning" when a friend stopped over. I the advertising world it's common to be "concepting."

I like to refer to the phenomenon as "verbing." (Get it? I verbed the word verb. So meta!)

So I'm officially verbing Tom Goes to the Mayor. As in, "You totally got Tom Goes to the Mayored! And you loved it!" Also acceptable is TGTTMed, for the sake of brevity. Why have I verbed a cartoon? Because I have TGTTMed some folks, and I'd like to share that with YOUUUUU!

First came Jim, of course. It was a surprise and he loved it. Then I got a couple more requests.

My sister came next. It took me a while to find this background, I think it's very TGTTM, don't you?

And finally my friend Rachel jumped on board. I'm not sure she was fully aware of the awesomeness of TGTTM, but she was appreciative of the photo treatment, so I did one for here. Nice glasses, Rach!
